Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment approach for individuals struggling with emotional dysregulation, interpersonal difficulties, and impulsive behaviors.
By teaching practical skills and strategies for coping with life’s challenges, DBT helps individuals build resilience, improve relationships, and achieve a higher quality of life. DBT consists of four main modules of treatment:
Mindfulness: This module focuses on cultivating present-moment awareness, nonjudgmental observation of thoughts and emotions, and acceptance of internal experiences.
Distress Tolerance: Distress tolerance skills help individuals cope with crises and overwhelming emotions without making impulsive or harmful decisions. Techniques include distraction, self-soothing, and radical acceptance.
Emotion Regulation: Emotion regulation skills help individuals identify, understand, and modulate their emotions in healthier ways. Techniques include identifying triggers, increasing positive emotions, and reducing vulnerability to negative emotions.
Interpersonal Effectiveness: This teaches individuals effective communication skills, assertiveness, setting boundaries, and navigating interpersonal relationships.
